The White River Clinic in West Honiara has received a significant boost with the donation of medical equipment and a vehicle from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
The handover ceremony, held at the clinic on Wednesday last week, was attended by officials from the PRC, Honiara City Council, and the West Honiara Constituency. PRC Counselor Li Qinghua described the donation as a meaningful gesture of friendship and solidarity between China and the Solomon Islands, reaffirming China’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the region.

“This clinic is a symbol of our shared humanity and dedication to supporting the well-being of communities in West Honiara,” Ms. Li said during her address.
Head Medical Officer Dr. Thomas Oitalo expressed sincere appreciation for the donation, highlighting its importance in supporting the clinic’s daily operations.

West Honiara Constituency Development Officer Brian Taupiri noted that over $400,000 in funding from 2023 enabled the purchase of the vehicle and medical equipment. Despite delays due to the national elections and administrative changes, he commended the successful delivery of the project, which marks a strong step forward in healthcare development, thanks in part to China’s support.
