The Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) has acknowledged concerns raised by the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) regarding road congestion in Honiara, increased by ongoing infrastructure projects. MID assures the business community that efforts are underway to minimize disruptions caused by the Solomon Water Sewer Line Installation Project and the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP).
The sewer line project, led by McConnell Dowell Construction, is nearing completion and is expected to finish by March 2025. Once done, affected road sections will reopen, restoring normal traffic flow. Meanwhile, the LMCP, which includes upgrading the Heritage Park to White River road to four lanes, will see asphalt laying begin by April 2025, with full completion anticipated by December 2025.

To ease congestion in the Central Business District, MID has upgraded Hibiscus Avenue as an alternative route. Additionally, contractors are tasked with grading roads after heavy rains and watering surfaces to reduce dust, improving air quality and road safety.
MID is collaborating with contractors, Honiara City Council, and the police to enforce traffic safety measures. The ministry remains committed to delivering essential infrastructure upgrades while minimizing disruptions, thanking the public and SICCI for their patience and cooperation.
