RAPPP advisors farewelled

Executive members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the RSIPF & Australian Federal Police (AFP) Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) farewelled two RAPPP advisors this month.

In a ceremony held at the RSIPF headquarters to bid farewell to advisors Steve Malam and Kate Weaver, the RSIPF Commissioner, Mostyn Mangau, said both advisors have done a lot for the RSIPF.

Advisor Malam was the team leader of the RAPPP’s Contracts & Logistics team who deployed into the country in November 2020. Advisor Weaver was a member of the RAPPP’s Program Management, Monitoring and Evaluation team, who was deployed here in September 2022.

Commissioner Mangau said there are no words to fully express their gratitude to Advisor Malam and Advisor Weaver for their services to the RSIPF.

“Their commitments are commendable and will be long remembered by the RSIPF,” Commissioner Mangau said.

RAPPP Commander, Heath Davies, said advisors Malam and Weaver have been instrumental in assisting RAPPP’s operations and their achievements have been outstanding.

As the man behind a lot of the recent RAPPP infrastructure projects, Commander Davies said Advisor Malam was able to achieve great things even through challenges, notably during the COVID-19 period.

Commander Davies spoke how Advisor Weaver has been instrumental in a range of roles across the RAPPP program.

Some of the projects delivered under Advisor Malam’s watch includes; construction of a memorial wall to commemorate fallen RSIPF officers, renovation and refurbishment of RSIPF’s police stations and facilities, re-designing and managing the construction of the Kukum and Naha police stations, Station, rolling out the RSIPF leaf hut initiative, providing advisory support to the RSIPF’s Police Infrastructure Department and Logistics teams, supporting the procurement of uniforms and vehicle parts for the RSIPF, supporting the delivery of specialised vehicles for Police Response Team and Mobile Protection Unit and much more.

During Advisor Weaver’s time, she developed strong relationships with RSIPF counterparts which was integral in driving priorities of the RSIPF and AFP. She implemented monitoring and evaluation mechanisms ensuring RAPPP complied with governance framework and that the delivery of RAPPP activities meets RSIPF priorities. Advisor Weaver also provided integral support to the RSIPF Women Advisory Network (WAN) and Gender Coordinator in delivering key gender initiatives and activities. This included the implementation of the RSIPF Maternity uniform trial, and supporting WAN’s events, like the WAN Annual General Meeting, International Women’s Day and 16 Days of Activism.
