Professor Transform Aqorau Highlights Strong Australia- Solomon Islands Partnership

The Vice Chancellor of the Solomon Islands National University (SINU), Professor Transform Aqorau, today highlighted the deep and enduring partnership between Australia and the Solomon Islands during a visit from Australian MP, the Hon. Pat Conroy.

In his welcome address, Professor Aqorau emphasized Australia’s significant role in supporting the economic and developmental needs of the Solomon Islands. He also spoke of the critical role education plays, not only in knowledge acquisition but as a cornerstone of national security, social stability, and the future employability of young Solomon Islanders.

Professor Aqorau reaffirmed SINU’s commitment to shaping the next generation of thought leaders who will drive socio-economic progress in the region. He took the opportunity to invite Minister Conroy and the Australian Government to collaborate with SINU on its ambitious plans for the Malaita campus. This transformative initiative will contribute to the long-term stability and prosperity of the Solomon Islands by expanding educational opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship, and addressing key socio-economic challenges.

Additionally, Professor Aqorau highlighted themes of sustainability, governance, and the importance of international partnerships in advancing SINU’s mission.

Minister Conroy, together with the Solomon Islands Minister for Education and Human Resources Development, Hon. Tozen Leokana, visited SINU to discuss Australia’s ongoing support in meeting the economic and developmental needs of the Solomon Islands.

Earlier this year, in March, SINU and Australia signed a historic 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration in research, student and staff exchanges, curriculum development, and institutional capacity building.
