MP Claudios Tei’ifi Quits GNUT Over Broken Promises and Poor Services

The member of Parliament, Claudios Tei’ifi, clarified to his people that his resignation from the Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) earlier this week was for the good of his constituents in West Kwaio.

MP Claudios Tei’ifi resigned from the Independent group last year and joined the GNUT, and then resigned this week along with other MPs to form a new coalition .

Hon. Claudios Tei’ifi said that what motivated him to join the PM Jeremiah Manele-led government last year was the belief that the government would prioritize the implementation of the Bina Harbour Project, as it would benefit his constituency.

However, the Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) has failed to commit and prioritize the Bina Harbour Project, even though the PM appointed Claudios Tei’ifi as the Chairman.

“Firstly, I resigned from Independent and joined the ruling GNUT in the hope that the government would prioritize and implement the Bina Harbour Project, as it was a national project and was situated in my constituency.

“However, very recently, during one of our caucus meetings, when I asked the PM about the project and whether this project is part of the policy flagship and government commitment, the PM’s answer was no,” Hon Tei’ifi explained.

“My second point is that Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele does not want to listen to any of his colleagues, MPs, but only hears the directives from his deputy, Bradley Tovosia, and that is what made me resign,” he added.

Hon Tei’ifi mentioned that the Prime Minister he wants is a leader who has the heart to save this country’s economy.

“I want the leader who can lead us to uplift the economy of this country. This country’s economy has hit rock bottom,” Hon. Tei’ifi conveyed.

He also emphasized that currently, our people are struggling and crying for good services in the country.

“Currently, our people are crying very loudly for good services. So we, the leaders, should hear their cries and provide good services for them. An example of this is that our people are currently crying for medical treatments. In rural areas, if someone tests positive for malaria, you have to pay for your own treatment. These are areas that we, the leaders of the day, should prioritize to provide for,” MP Claudio said.
