Relief Works Underway Along Mendana Avenue Amid Heavy Rains

Relief work is actively progressing along Mendana Avenue in Honiara, where crews are addressing critical sections from Point Cruz Solomon Motors to the Honiara Hotel and Casino (HHC) Roundabout. Emergency repairs were carried out this morning in front of HHC and the Central Market area, targeting both sides of the road. These temporary measures aim to fill potholes and maintain a steady flow of traffic despite ongoing wet weather conditions.

Authorities confirmed that this stretch of Mendana Avenue is set for full rehabilitation under the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project. Until then, the priority remains on keeping the roadway safe and navigable for all road users in the central business district.

Elsewhere, construction activities on feeder roads in Central and West Honiara have been temporarily halted due to unfavorable weather. Contractors are on standby and will resume routine maintenance as soon as conditions improve.

Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution during heavy rain to ensure their safety and that of others. Local officials thanked the public for their continued patience and cooperation.
