On May 14, a Letter of Intent was signed in Haikou between Hainan Province of China and Rennell and Bellona (Renbel) Province of the Solomon Islands, marking a key step toward establishing a sister-province relationship. The agreement signals a commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in areas including agriculture, fisheries, tourism, culture, and education.

The signing ceremony was attended by prominent representatives from both sides, including H.E. Barrett Salato, Ambassador of the Solomon Islands to China, Hon. Jorge Puia, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Renbel Province, and Ms. Shang Jing, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province.
