Beach Soccer Legend Naka to lead Bilikiki at the OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup

Bilikiki legend James Naka has been appointed honorary Head Coach of the National Beach Soccer team for the historic hosting of the OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup 2024 in Honiara.

It will be marked as a historic occasion for the former Bilikiki frontman who had made his name on the global stage and is now guiding the next generation of players on home soil.

With four World Cup appearances to his name, the now 40-year-old reflecting on his role shared optimism for one last shot at glory.

“To be the coach is just a title, but I’m giving it all back with the knowledge and experience gained throughout the years. It’d be special to lead the team now at home,” Naka said.

Naka has teamed up with fellow Bilikiki icon Fred Hale as Assistant Coach, and together, the duo has been hard at work assembling a squad over the past months with a final team announcement set for this weekend.

“The team consists of experienced and young players who have shown passion for the code, and I believe in our preparations, we are ready to make our mark at home for the first time.

The tournament, which sees four nations competing in a single-group format, will take place in Honiara from October 22-26 at the SIFF Academy Beach Soccer pitch.
