The Solomon Islands has achieved a significant milestone in strengthening its border security with the completion of the first stage of the Western Border Outpost. This development marks a vital step in safeguarding the Western border area and strengthening the nation’s ability to monitor and protect its territorial waters.

Delivered under the Defence Cooperation Program by Australia, the outpost provides a centralized operational hub for key border security agencies, including the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Customs, Immigration and Biosecurity, and other government entities. This collaborative workspace will enhance coordination and efficiency in managing border security operations.
The project was completed in just 10 months, following land ownership and regulatory approvals from the Solomon Islands Government. Notably, the construction phase created 43 jobs for local workers, contributing to the nation’s economic development.

With the initial operating capability now in place, construction has already begun on the next stages of the project. Once fully operational, the outpost will significantly enhance the Solomon Islands’ ability to secure its Western borders, ensure the safe passage of trade vessels, and combat illegal activities such as illicit movements of people and goods.
This initiative highlights the Solomon Islands’ commitment to protecting its sovereignty and boosting regional security while also highlighting the strong partnership between the Solomon Islands and Australia in addressing shared security challenges.
