Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has announced the reassignment of Sir Jimmie Rodgers, the former Secretary to Prime Minister (SPM), to special duties. Dr. Melchoir Mataki, currently Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination, will take over as the new SPM.

Manele emphasized that Rodgers’ reassignment is routine and not unusual, stating it aligns with the government’s transformative agenda to enhance the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC).

Rodgers, recently knighted, has served as SPM for over six years, taking on multiple additional responsibilities without extra cost to the government. His achievements include leading the successful hosting of the Pacific Games, chairing the National Provident Fund Board, coordinating COVID-19 responses, and securing financing for key projects.

Manele explained that Rodgers will now focus on special projects, including completing the Pacific Games audit, organizing international meetings, and overseeing the construction of the new OPMC headquarters. Dr. Mataki’s replacement in his former role has yet to be announced.
