His Excellency Miwa Yoshiaki, the Japanese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, met with Mr. Simon Chottu, Director of the CEMA Cabinet Sub-Committee, to discuss areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration between Japan and the Solomon Islands in the agricultural commodities sector.

During the meeting, Mr. Chottu provided an overview of the Commodities Export Marketing Authority’s (CEMA) revitalization efforts, including its strategic focus on boosting the country’s coconut and cocoa exports. The discussion centered on CEMA’s ongoing initiatives to modernize its facilities and infrastructure, including the construction of new refineries in Noro and Russell Islands, aimed at increasing value-added production for key commodities.

His Excellency Miwa Yoshiaki expressed Japan’s continued support for the Solomon Islands and emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties, particularly through agricultural development and trade. The meeting highlighted opportunities for future partnerships in areas such as technology transfer, capacity building, and export market expansion for Solomon Islands products.
