Residents of Auki town and travelers along North and East Road are advised that Fiu Bridge will be temporarily closed from 6 PM this evening to allow urgent repair work to proceed.
The closure comes after the arrival of important materials from Honiara earlier today, enabling emergency works to continue through the night. While the bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic, pedestrians will still be allowed to cross under the supervision of workers on-site.

Additionally, the wet crossing located upstream from the bridge remains open and can be used as an alternative route during the closure.
Authorities are urging all residents to plan ahead and ensure they are on their respective sides of the bridge before 6 PM.
“We understand this may cause inconvenience, but the repairs are necessary to ensure the bridge remains safe for public use,” officials stated. They added that work will proceed through the night, weather permitting.
The public is thanked for their understanding and cooperation during this essential maintenance effort.
