Exciting progress is unfolding at Santa Cruz Airfield, as the first layer of chip seal has now been successfully laid on the runway. A major step forward in the ongoing upgrade works. This development marks a significant milestone under the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project II (SIRAP2), led by the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA) with vital support from the World Bank.
The runway upgrade is a crucial part of efforts to enhance air connectivity for Temotu Province, improving both safety and reliability for travelers and cargo alike. The works are being delivered with the expertise of contractor China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) and supervision consultant EGIS, who, along with the broader project teams, have shown strong commitment to advancing the project despite logistical and environmental challenges.
This milestone underscores the continued momentum of SIRAP2, which aims to boost infrastructure and accessibility across the Solomon Islands. With the base layer in place, the project now moves closer to its goal of delivering a modernized and resilient airfield for the people of Temotu.
