Ambassador of Germany to Solomon Islands presents credentials to Governor General.

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Her Excellency Beate Grzeski has presented her letter of credence to Governor General, His Excellency Reverend David Tiva Kapu at government house on Thursday (7th November 2024).

Governor General, H.E Rev. David Tipa Kapu welcomed Germany’s new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary acknowledging the strong historical bonds shared by the two nations.

H.E Kapu acknowledged Germany’s initiatives in environmental protection and community resilience, particularly projects on Malaita Province.

“These efforts foster community engagement and empowerment. Your support in the province reflects a deep understanding of our needs and aspirations, and we look forward to further collaboration in this vital area.

The Governor General also called on Germany’s support for Solomon Islands hosting an SDG 14.4 Summit in February next year.

He said this summit will take stock of the global health of tuna stock and will be an opportunity for the world to share knowledge and experience on fisheries management, develop policies and strategies.

The outcome of the summit will feed into the UN Ocean Conference in France. The event is co-hosted with the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), The Pacific Community (SPC), Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner (OPOC) and UN Secretary General’s Ocean Envoy.

H.E. Kapu also recognized the cultural cooperation facilitated through the National Museum in Honiara and the German Archaeological Institute, describing it as invaluable to the Solomon Islands.

“The continuation of this work enriches our understanding of our shared history,” he added.

The Governor General further expressed appreciation for Germany’s continued support within international frameworks, including the United Nations, EU, World Bank, and ADB.

“We look forward to collaborating on shared initiatives that promote peace, stability, and development,” he said.

“As we face global challenges like energy security, biodiversity preservation, and sustainable fisheries, I wholeheartedly agree that multilateral cooperation is essential,” H.E. Kapu remarked.

“Our shared commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and international cooperation provides a strong foundation for our partnership.”
