A 28-year-old man who attempted to kill his sister by tying a rope to her neck and locked her in a room whilst she was asleep is now locked behind bars in Auki Police station awaiting his day in court.
The girl was saved by her father who heard what happened, entered the room and untied her at Lalana Village in Langalanga, Malaita.
The incident happened in October but the male was arrested on 7th November. He now faces a charge of attempt murder
Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau explained today that the suspect entered his big sister’s room with a rope. “He tied the rope to his sister’s neck whilst she was a sleep, tried to suffocate her and prevented her from removing the rope.”
He added: “The father heard what was happening, he entered the and removed the rope from his daughter’s neck and chased his son away.”
Mangau said the motive remains unclear and it would be subject to police investigation.
“It is a sad incident. We don’t expect such things to happen in an immediate family,” he said.
