The Our Lady of Visitation DIVIT Girls Training Center in Visale proudly celebrated students completed 2 years of training on Friday, 15th Nov 2024.
With the theme “Empowering Young Women and Girls with Knowledge and Skills for the Future,” the event honored the achievements of 28 young women who completed and received certificate in Agriculture, Carpentry, Life Skills, Tourism & Hospitality, Computing, Basic English, Health and Hygiene, Business
Distinguished guests graced the occasion, including the Catholic Education Provider Secretary, Mr. Jackson Meke; Director of the Solomon Islands Association of Vocational Rural Training Centres (SIAVRTC); School Board Chairman, Mr. Casper Fasala; and the Guest of Honor, Abigail Chang, APTC Country Director for the Solomon Islands and Kiribati, Parents, guardians and former principals from the DMI Sisters.
In her opening remarks, the school principal expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated supporters of the training center, including Australia Marist Solidarity (AMS), APTC, Caritas Australia, SIAVRTC and the Catholic Archdiocese of Honiara. Their collective contributions have been vital in providing quality education and expanding opportunities for young women and girls.
Speaking on behalf of the Archbishop of Honiara, the Catholic Education Provider Secretary praised the school for its accomplishments and announced a newly approved grant to construct a building dedicated to life-skills training.
Mr. Casper Fasala, Chairman of the School Board, emphasized inclusivity in education and commended the school for constructing a ramp, making the campus accessible to students with disabilities.
A representative of the graduating class delivered a heartfelt acknowledgment on behalf of her peers, thanking the teachers, parents, and supporters who guided them on their journey. She described the occasion not as the end but as the beginning of their lifelong learning journey.
In her keynote speech, Abigail Chang delivered an inspiring message to the graduates:
“I urge you to carry this spirit forward. Your education has empowered you to shape your future, make choices aligned with your goals, and contribute to your communities in meaningful ways. Whether in agriculture, carpentry, tourism, or any other field, your skills are a tool to uplift your life and those around you.”
She encouraged the graduates to embrace leadership, remain connected with the DIVIT community, and inspire future generations of young women through their achievements.
