East Malaitans Correct Misleading News on Upgraded Road

People of East Malaita have raised concerns over a recent news report that showed pictures of some upgraded roads with the title “Malaita’s East Road Upgrade Near Completion.”

The article, however, showed only a small section of the road, misleading readers into thinking the entire route had been improved. In reality, the upgrades are limited to the starting point of the East Road, with the rest of the route remaining in poor condition.

A video shared on Facebook this week highlights the true state of the road, showing muddy, deteriorated sections that are barely safe for drivers and passengersto travel. This has started frustration among locals, who say the road conditions are severely impacting businesses, transport, and daily commuting for the people.

The people of East Malaita are now calling on their Member of Parliament to take immediate action to address the issue, stressing the importance of a fully upgraded road for economic development and the well-being of the community.

The lack of proper infrastructure is making it difficult for businesses to thrive and for residents to travel safely, pushing urgent demands for repairs and upgrades to the entire East Road.
