Residents of No.3 in Chinatown, Honiara, are raising alarm over the operation of side loaders in their residential area, speaking out their frustrations on social media. One resident went live on Facebook earlier this week to show the scenes.
Residents are expressing growing concerns about the impact of these large vehicles on their daily lives.

Local residents have reported that the side loaders are causing a lot of disruption through noise and air pollution and damaging the road, which has become a daily problem for residents. The large trucks, which navigate narrow residential roads, are also seen as a potential risk for accidents, with some fearing that an incident could occur at any time due to the trucks’ size in relation to the small roads.

Many local residents are questioning why these operations are allowed in a residential zone. They argue that such loading areas should be located in industrial districts, away from where people live.
“Why are they allowed to do this here?” asked one concerned resident. “This is not the place for such heavy vehicles.”

The growing frustration has led to calls for the Honiara City Council and other relevant authorities to step in and address what is being described as an unsafe situation. Many hope that changes will be made to relocate the loading compound to a more suitable area, away from residential spaces.

As the issue continues to unfold, residents remain hopeful that their concerns will be heard and acted upon to ensure a safer and more peaceful living environment.
