Urgent Call for Action Against Reckless Road Behaviour During Local Celebrations

Letter to the Editor

I am writing to express my deep concern over the reckless behaviour displayed by some local citizens on our public roads, which blatantly disregards traffic rules and safety regulations.

Just today, I witnessed a group of people celebrating a traditional event, known to us as lead gele or take gele, in an extremely dangerous manner. Individuals were hanging out of moving vehicles with their legs dangling outside, drinking alcohol, and even opening car boots while the cars were in motion. Such actions pose serious risks not only to those involved but also to other road users.

Our roads are already congested with plenty of vehicles and pedestrians. One wrong move could lead to a fatal accident, putting innocent lives at risk. It is alarming that such reckless behaviour goes unchecked. Where are our traffic police officers, who have the authority to intervene and prevent such violations? Their presence and enforcement of the law are crucial in ensuring public safety.

As the saying goes, if you see something, say something. We must all take responsibility for reporting such incidents and urging authorities to take action. I call on the police and relevant authorities to step up enforcement and ensure that road safety laws are upheld. We cannot afford to wait for a tragedy to occur before action is taken.

Sincerely,

Concern Citizen
