The Roviana Lagoon Festival Commences

The Roviana Lagoon Festival 2024 officially began today in Munda, Western Province, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Roviana people.

Running from December 3 to 6, the festival showcases traditional practices such as war canoe demonstrations, weaving displays, and lagoon swimming, offering a deep connection to the community’s history and identity.

A key highlight is the Tomoko, a traditional war canoe made from 32 tree planks bound together with vine and caulked with a special nut.
