The third China Medical Team (CMT) to the Solomon Islands conducted a free medical outreach program at Henderson Court on Sunday, offering comprehensive health check-ups to local residents and promoting community well-being.
The program provided a range of specialized medical services, including infectious disease treatment, acupuncture, cardiology, nephrology, and urology, ensuring diverse healthcare needs were addressed as well as providing free medication to residents.
Dr Mu Mao, head of the CMT, underscored the team’s commitment to providing continued medical services across the Solomon Islands.
“We aim to bring our medical services to more people in different communities across Solomon Islands, on the grassroots level as well as aiding those in remote locations,” Dr Mu Said.
The event saw members of the nearby communities eagerly making the most of the opportunity to receive free medical check-ups.
Judith Kesimu, a resident of the Henderson Community expressed her gratitude towards the China Medical Team and further expressed the need for more event like this.
“This was my first time to attend an event like this and despite the language barrier the medical team was very welcoming and ensured that I felt free and secured to get myself checked out.”
“I believe that events like this need to be more frequent as it allows the public to have access to medical services that our national referral hospital does not always have the capacity to offer,” she added.
Apart from these free medical check-ups this is also a great opportunity to deepen the friendship of the people between Solomon Islands and China, Dr Mu emphasized.
Dr Mu also highlighted that as well as providing community outreach programs like these free medical check-ups the team is also stationed at the national referral hospital providing specialised medical services to locals.
Over the past 7 months, the 3rd CMT has provided 7732 medical services for local patients and given more than 6525 acupuncture treatment to the people in Solomon Islands, saved the lives of more than 161 critically ill people, organized 331 medical training courses, and conducted 50 surgeries in NRH.
The 3rd CMT also arranged academic seminars and invited local doctors and nurses to observe and participate in their diagnosis and treatment process like urological surgeries, acupuncture treatment, in an effort to help enhance the capacity building of the local hospital. Medical services were also extended to the community and the people on remote islands, where more than 1100 medical seekers benefited from these free clinics.
The event was a collaborative initiative with the Solomon Islands Chinese Women Association as well as the Chinese Police Liaison Team 6 (CPLT).
