A Motion of No Confidence in Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has been presented to the National Parliament today. While the specific details of the motion remain undisclosed, Jefferson Hallu, the Clerk of the National Parliament, confirmed this evening that his office has received it.
The motion was submitted by Gordon Darcy Lilo, the MP for Central Honiara and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. Hallu also confirmed that the Speaker has been provided with a copy and has been notified.

The motion will be reviewed by Parliament for seven days, and by December 12, it will reach maturity, allowing it to be formally moved on December 13 or later.
The motion declares that the National Parliament of the Solomon Islands has no confidence in the Prime Minister. It is believed that the motion arises from various controversies surrounding the government, including issues related to exemptions and a current mining scandal that has led to millions of dollars in unpaid taxes and revenues owed by a foreign mining company.

Manele’s eight-month-old Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) presented its first budget to Parliament yesterday, which was introduced during a second-reading by Finance Minister Sogavare.
This motion represents Manele’s first political challenge since his election in April, where he secured victory with a 31 to 19 vote. He replaced former Prime Minister Sogavare, who led the OUR Party and the DCGA coalition from 2019 to 2024.
