Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele MP bids farewell to the British High Commissioner to Solomon Islands and Nauru, His Excellency Thomas Edward Coward on the completion of his tenure.
At a reception to farewell His Excellency Coward, Prime Minister Manele appreciates the partnership between Solomon Islands and United Kingdom, a relationship rooted in history.
The Prime Minister stated, the government and people of Solomon Islands acknowledge H.E Coward’s contribution to the UK-SI relations.
Under H.E Coward’s watch, the SI-UK partnership has experienced deep bonds and valued engagements.
This is manifested in UK’s increased presence and assistance to Solomon Islands. The United Kingdom’s Foreign Affairs Secretary (2023), Honourable James Cleverly’s visit to Solomon Islands marks the first time a foreign secretary of UK has visited Solomon Islands in a long time.
Prime Minister Manele also acknowledge the United Kingdom’s assistance to the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation to deliver effectively across the country.
He adds, Solomon Islands further appreciate the opportunity for our young men and women to be enlisted in the UK Naval Army.
The United Kingdom has also assisted Solomon Islands in sectors including health, National Security, Education, Finance and Economic expansion, Trade, Church, Maritime, Culture, Music, Media, Sports and support to the Private sector, said PM Manele.
His Excellency Coward said, the United Kingdom values its relationship with Solomon Islands. Not only a partnership of the past, the future is also bright.
H.E Coward adds, UK supports the Government’s ambitious plans and is making progress in a lot of fundamental sectors.
The outgoing Ambassador and his family will be carrying home warm and fond memories of the beautiful and friendly people of Solomon Islands and hopes to return some day.
