MCILI Launches New Office for the Ecommerce Implementation Unit

Honiara, Solomon Islands – The Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration (MCILI) successfully launched the new office for the Ecommerce Implementation Unit (EIU) on Wednesday 25th June 2025. This marks a significant step forward in advancing digital trade and ecommerce development in Solomon Islands.

Held at the Sir David Kausimae Building in East Honiara, the ceremony was officiated by the Permanent Secretary of MCILI, Mr. Riley Mesepity, who delivered the keynote address and led the official launch alongside key stakeholders from government, private sector, and development partners.

In his address, the PS Mesepitu emphasized the importance of the EIU as a key coordination body mandated to lead the implementation of the National Ecommerce Strategy 2022-2027, which aims to create an inclusive and sustainable ecommerce ecosystem for all Solomon Islanders.

The Director of EIU, Mr. Richard Nokia, also delivered a brief report highlighting the progress of the EIU since its establishment in 2024, as well as upcoming ecommerce initiatives aimed at building capacity, improving digital connectivity, and supporting ecommerce update by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.

Following the speeches and presentations, the Permanent Secretary and the Director of EIU led the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon, signifying the official opening of the EIU Office. Attendees were then invited to take a guided tour of the new office space. The EIU office includes a dedicated conference room, a director’s office, and modern workstations for EIU staffs, designed to support collaborative planning, policy coordination, and program delivery.

The event concluded with a group photo and a networking event, allowing participants to connect and discuss opportunities for further collaborations.

The EIU serves as the Secretariat to the National Ecommerce Steering Committee and works in close partnership with line ministries, industry associations, and development partners to implement targeted actions under the seven priority areas of the National Ecommerce Strategy 2022-2027.
