CSSI Launches 2024 Gender Audit Report, Marking Strong Progress Since 2012

Honiara, 20 June 2025 – The Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) officially launched its 2024 Gender Audit Report at the Sullivan’s Conference Room, Rove.

Delivering the welcome remarks at the launch, CSSI Gender Coordinator Senior Sergeant Catherine Nalakia acknowledged the ongoing commitment of CSSI to gender equality, noting key achievements since the first Gender Audit in 2012. These include the gradual increase of women in leadership roles—now holding 30% of Executive positions—and the integration of gender-focused policies and programs across the Service.

“The Gender Audit 2024 is a huge achievement for CSSI. It provides a roadmap for building a more inclusive and supportive workplace, and it reflects both our progress and the areas where more work is needed,” said Senior Sergeant Nalakia.

The report highlights 21 findings across six audit areas and proposes five strategic recommendations aligned with the CSSI Strategic Direction 2023–2026. Among them is the development of a refined CSSI Gender Action Plan to ensure every officer is accountable for promoting gender equality.

Senior Sergeant Nalakia also paid tribute to the dedicated Gender Audit Team and thanked CSSI staff and development partners—including ASIPJ—for their ongoing support, capacity building, and technical guidance throughout the process.

“I am proud to be part of the Gender Audit Team, and I thank every CSSI officer who contributed their time, insights, and commitment to this process,” she said. “Together, we are creating a culture where all staff can work hand in hand—freely, safely, and equally.”
