The Solomon Islands National University (SINU), in collaboration with the International Water Centre from Griffith University, successfully co-hosted a workshop on โDecentralization and Rural Water Service Deliveryโ in the Solomon Islands.
The workshop took place on Tuesday, 10th December 2024, at the Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry (FAFF) at Kukum Campus.
Supported by UNICEF Solomon Islands, the event presented findings from 18 months of formative research on the strengths, challenges, and opportunities associated with decentralization in rural water service delivery.
The workshop aimed to validate these findings and co-develop key recommendations to address challenges in rural water services.
Attendees included staff from the Environmental Health Division (EHD)/Rural Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (RWASH) program, the Water Resources Management Division under the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification (MMERE), the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS), as well as representatives from Ward Development Committees (WDCs).
SINU researchers involved in the study, Dr. Hugo Bugoro, Mr. Collin Benjamin, and Ms. Sheilla Funubo were also present and contributed to the one-day workshop.
