The Building Materials for the reconstruction work of Dental Clinic at Atoifi Adventist Hospital (AAH) in East Kwaio, Malaita Province, has arrived safely in Atoifi on Sunday 2 February 2024.
The materials stored inside the 40 feet container loaded by a barge from Honiara. The materials were the last logistical hurdle prior to commencing construction.
The container has all the building materials for constructing the dental clinic as well as electrical, plumbing, and dental chairs and the dental equipment.
The dental clinic project was fully funded by Dr. Genna Levitch, a Dentist by profession, and his son-in-law, Tim Edwards, from Australia. Edwards won a prize at work and donated the money to fund the project. The funds have been channelled through ADRA Australia and will be administered by ADRA Solomon Islands for implementation.
Work on the dental clinic was initially begun in 2016 but was halted due to some issues. The work would now resume to complete the dental clinic. The staff house, funded under the project, has already been completed. The current phase of the project will now focus on finishing the dental clinic.
Dr Genna Levitch who funded the DentaL Clinic said thanked the management of Atoifi School and local staff who help to make the shipment of building materials arrival in Atoifi.
He said the builder of the dental clinic was from Australia will be arrived in Honiara on 17 of February with a team of 9 builders and cooks while Mr Levitch will come over on Mar 10 with a team of 5 to install the electrical, joinery and dental equipment.
Dr Levitch said the project was expected to complete by March 28 and handover will be done for the school.
The Dental Clinic will feature two dental chairs, a reception area, a staff room, a lab, and a sterilizing room. It will be operated by Atoifi Hospital and will serve residents of the surrounding regions in East Kwaio and other parts of Malaita region.
