New Zealand Boosts Neurological Care in Solomon Islands with Specialized Equipment and Expert Support

This week, the National Referral Hospital (NRH) achieved a significant milestone in advancing neurological care with the donation of specialized medical equipment, funded by the New Zealand High Commission and New Zealand’s Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA). The handover event was attended by representatives from the New Zealand High Commission, VSA, and NRH.

The new equipment will strengthen the NRH surgical team’s capabilities, leading to improved healthcare outcomes for patients in the Solomon Islands. Additionally, Dr. Martin Hunn, a volunteer neurosurgeon from New Zealand, has been offering mentorship and technical guidance to the NRH surgical team.

New Zealand is committed to delivering practical and focused support to the NRH, including deploying health volunteers through VSA and enhancing laboratory technical skills via the Pacific Pathology Training Centre.

VSA (Volunteer Service Abroad) plays a key role in facilitating this collaboration.
