Papua New Guinea (PNG) has claimed the 2024 MSG Prime Minister’s title today after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Vanuatu, securing their place as the Melanesian top footballing nation.
Solomon Islands, the defending champions, were dethroned despite not stepping onto the pitch for the final match. PNG’s dominant performance throughout the competition, which saw them remain unbeaten, ultimately clinched the top prize.
Solomon Islands had lifted the trophy in the competition’s second edition but saw their grip on the title slip as PNG emerged victorious. The final match, played at the National Stadium against Fiji, marked the end of the tournament, with the Melanesian Cup now heading to Port Moresby for the first time in years.
