The partnership program between the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), known as the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP), donated gifts at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) last Friday.
The gifts were presented to children admitted to the NRH’s Children’s Ward.
Officers from the RSIPF’s National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) along with members of RAPPP and the Health Welfare and Community Engagement (HWCE) project visited the Children’s Ward and delivered the gifts.
The gifts contain RAPPP merchandise and Christmas gifts.
According to the HWCE project advisor, Kevin Shaw, the donation at the NRH concludes the WHCE’s activities for this year.
Since the beginning of this year, AFP and RSIPF members joined the HWCE team to stage a number of community engagement activities in communities inside and outside of Honiara.
These activities not only bring children together for a day of fun but they have strengthened community bonds that re-emphasized shared responsibility for all children.
RSIPF officers use these opportunities to deliver awareness talks covering important topics like drugs, safety and more.
Kevin said he was delighted to work with RSIPF and see the smiles on the children’s faces when receiving their gifts.
The Ward’s Acting Nurse Manager, Lily Meke, thanked RAPPP, RSIPF and HWCE team for visiting their Ward and for delivering the gifts.
Lily said there are children admitting in the Ward who are less fortunate since they come from very remote places or have no financial support.
She said some children count such donation as blessing.
Lily said they have over 36 children admitted in the ward at the time of the visit which makes them the lucky ones to get a RAPPP gift.
