Southern Cross heading to Vanuatu to provide free shipment of food supplies to victims of earthquake

The MV Southern Cross (SX) will be in Vanuatu as of 01-January-2025 to provide free shipment of food supplies from the Northern islands to Port Vila.

In a statement, ACOM says the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) as guided by her Mission Statement to demonstrate God’s love in responding to human needs in loving service, in both peace and disaster time is committing herself to utilize the Church’s Flagship the MV Southern Cross to provide free shipment of food supplies and non-food items to affected communities in Port Vila.

The ACOMV Office in Luganville, Santo, is working closely with partners, clusters, and churches to gather donations.
The food will go directly to the Food Security and Agriculture Cluster (FSAC) to assist families who have been affected, lost their job or are struggling because of the disaster.

A magnitude 7.3 earthquake which stuck Port Vila on Tuesday last week, killed at least 16 people, injuring at least 200 and causing massive damage to the city and surrounding areas.

Anglican Church in Vanuatu is part of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) which also includes Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.
