2025: The Year for Answers and Justice

Times have changed in the Solomon Islands, as the people are no longer willing to forget past issues caused by their government and simply move on. Two days into 2025, community leaders across the nation are already speaking out about two significant concerns that dominated the news in 2024.

The first issue is the Covid-19 Economic Stimulus Package Audit, which revealed widespread mismanagement and corruption among Ministry officers and government officials. Despite the gravity of the findings, the police are still waiting for referrals from the Auditor General, leaving many frustrated.

Local leaders are now demanding that those responsible for mishandling funds, which were intended to help the people during tough times, face justice.

The second troubling issue is the long-standing dispute over 33 unpaid shipments from mining operations on Rennell Island, which has been unresolved for almost eight years. The Opposition Leader reminded the Minister of Mines about the urgency of addressing this matter last year, yet no resolution has been found. People are growing weary and are calling for answers.

The people of the Solomon Islands are no longer willing to ignore these problems, demanding accountability and justice for the wrongs that have impacted their lives.
