Residents in Honiara are raising concerns over a massive pothole that has turned into a stagnant pool of water just below the Parliament building. The issue, located in the Central Business District (CBD), has become an eyesore and a source of frustration for locals and commuters alike.
The dirty water has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and poses potential health risks, while its unsightly appearance has drawn criticism from residents who feel it reflects poorly on the city’s maintenance standards. Many are calling on authorities to take immediate action to fix the issue, emphasizing that such neglect in such a prominent area is unacceptable.
One taxi driver, who frequently operates in the area, described the situation humorously but pointedly: “If you put a canoe there, it can float. That’s how bad it is.”
The pool, which has grown significantly due to recent rains, has not only disrupted traffic but also raised questions about why no action has been taken to address the problem.
As the complaints grow louder, Honiara residents hope the “pothole pool” will soon be filled and repaired, restoring both safety and dignity to the CBD.
