The Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM) today handed over disaster relief supplies at the Vanuatu Police Maritime Wharf, RVS Mala Base.

The supplies were delivered by the Right Rev. James Tama, Bishop of the Diocese of Vanuatu and New Caledonia, to the Director General of the Vanuatu Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity (MALFFB), Mr. Timothy Tumukon.

Bishop Tama who handed over the supplies on behalf of the ACoM, expressed gratitude to contributors from both the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, including local communities, sister churches, and businesses. He also thank ACoM Mission Partners both locally and overseas for kindly supporting the church during such disasters.
“These contributions reflect the unity and compassion of our people during this time of need,” said the Bishop, thanking MALFFB for facilitating the distribution process.

Mr. Tumukon commended ACoM’s leadership, acknowledging the supplies’ significance for earthquake-affected victims.

“This generous support from the Solomon Islands and Santo families will be distributed effectively to reach those in need,” he noted.

Present at the handing over ceremony are the ACoM Chief Operation officer from Solomon Islands Mr. Peter Pitia, ACOM Vanuatu Senior Operations officer Mr. John Siba and other ACoM staff and Secretary General of Church of Christ who also responded to the appeal and accompanied Bishop Tama’s team from Santo.

The relief items included 110 bags of coconuts, 100 bags of local foods, 539 bags of rice, 698 cartons of water, 120 cartons of noodles, 68 cartons of Taiyo, and more. The supplies, transported via MV Southern Cross, mark the first trip organized by ACoM’s disaster response. Future trips are scheduled to other provinces, including Torba, Penama, Malampa, and Shefa.
