Vendors at the Honiara Central Market are reaping the rewards of the newly completed $10 million Western Extension, funded by the Australian government.
Delivered by Tropic Group Builders Ltd in collaboration with the Honiara City Council, the extension provides undercover space for 100 vendors, offering much-needed protection from harsh weather conditions.
The construction of the extension also brought important benefits to the local community. Over 30 jobs were created during the project, providing valuable employment opportunities, including key roles for women.
This extension is part of the broader Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership, aimed at supporting economic growth in Honiara and the provinces.
The project is just one of many market upgrades and developments set to bolster local economies and improve conditions for vendors across the region.
