Henley Global Survey: Solomon Islands Achieves Historic 37th Place in Passport Ranking

The Solomon Islands now boasts the most powerful passport in the South Pacific, according to the latest Henley Global survey on travel ease. Ranking 37th globally, the Solomon Islands’ passport offers visa-free access to 134 countries, the highest among Pacific Island nations. This marks the highest ranking for the country to date.

New Zealand’s passport ranks 5th, followed closely by Australia in 6th place. Meanwhile, Vanuatuโ€™s passport has suffered a significant decline, falling to 54th due to scandals related to its passports-for-sale program. Fiji’s passport also ranks lower, though it has improved since 2009 when it was ranked 49th.

Samoa, Tonga, the Marshall Islands, and Palau have all reached their highest-ever levels of travel freedom. Interestingly, if New Zealand were to grant visa-free access to Samoans, Samoaโ€™s ranking would increase sharply. Other Pacific nations like Tuvalu, Kiribati, Micronesia, and Palau all benefit from greater travel freedom as well.

Despite their relatively lower rankings, Pacific nations are steadily improving their global mobility, reflecting increasing diplomatic engagement and global cooperation.
