USAID continues to support businesses in the Solomon Islands by facilitating access to international markets. In December, Bulk Shop, a local business, successfully shipped 13 tonnes (almost 30,000 pounds) of kava chips and roots to buyers in the United States.
This shipment marks another great milestone in a long-standing history of USAID’s efforts to boost the export of kava to the U.S., helping to open new economic opportunities for local producers.
Kava, a traditional beverage known for its calming properties, has gained increasing demand in global markets, especially in the U.S.
USAID’s assistance has played a vital role in ensuring that Solomon Islands businesses can meet international standards, expand their reach, and tap into lucrative overseas markets. Through these efforts, USAID continues to promote sustainable economic growth and improve the livelihoods of local communities in the Solomon Islands.
