Prime Minister Expresses Condolences on the Passing of Father Sir John Ini Lapli

To: Lady Hellen Ini Lapli, daughter, sons and grannies, family members, relatives, and friends in Luepe village, Graciosa Bay, Santa Cruz, Temotu Province, and in Honiara, and elsewhere.

On behalf of the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT), I as the Prime Minister of Solomon Islands extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to you, the family members, relatives, and friends of the late Father Sir John Ini Lapli on his calling to rest by our Almighty God in the early hours of yesterday, Saturday 18th January 2025.

Father Sir John Ini Lapli had an illustrious career, serving in the Church of Melanesia in pastoral engagements for many years before becoming the fourth Governor-General of the Solomon Islands, from July 7, 1999, to July 7, 2004. He served with distinction in both the Church and Public Service, serving our people and nation.

Father Sir John Ini Lapli held the office of Vice Regal during a challenging period in the history of our country. His steadfast commitment and dedication as the representative of our Head of State are deeply admirable and sincerely appreciated by the government and the people of the Solomon Islands. May the legacy of his selfless service and loyalty to serve the people of Solomon Islands live on for others to emulate.

May the love of the Almighty God, our Father, grant you peace and solace during this difficult time of bereavement. May you be comforted in knowing that your husband, father,  brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Father Sir John Ini Lapli, served our people and country with commitment and vigor to the best of his God-given abilities and knowledge.

May the soul of our dearly departed rest in peace with Almighty God, the One True God.
