The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) is facing criticism after announcing the inclusion of 21-year-old Rovu Enerst Boyers in the national team for the second match of the Men’s Solomon Islands National Team in Papua New Guinea next week.
Boyers, a long-time player for the Royals Football Academy, has been hailed for his talent and potential. However, the SIFF’s failure to credit the academy and its founder, Moffat Konofilia, has sparked outrage among local football fans and enthusiasts.
The Royals Football Academy, a key institution in nurturing young football talent in the country, has been instrumental in developing some current players in the National Squad and newly announced Boyers.
Despite the academy’s pivotal role in his development, the SIFF announcement made no mention of the academy or Konofilia’s efforts in shaping Boyers’ career. This omission has raised concerns among football supporters, who argue that the lack of acknowledgment undermines the vital contributions of grassroots football organizations in the Solomon Islands.
“This is a missed opportunity to recognize the efforts of local football academies that are building the future of our national team,” said one local football fanatic. “Without proper support and recognition for places like the Royals Academy, we risk discouraging other aspiring young players and coaches who are working tirelessly to improve football in our country.”
As the national team continues to build momentum on the international stage, it is clear that the contributions of local academies like Royals should not be overlooked in the pursuit of football excellence.
