The government-sanctioned Local Organising Committee (LOC) is confident of hosting the third edition of the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup in Honiara from December 9-21.
The Committee is working relentlessly with the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) in collaboration with the MSG Secretariat to ensure the prestigious sub-regional soccer event is successfully hosted at Lawson Tama Stadium and the National Stadium.
The national teams of Fiji, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, and Vanuatu are expected to begin arriving in Honiara in the first week of December ahead of the tournament.
The LOC has already progressed accommodation bookings, catering, transportation, security, training facilities, media promotions, immigration and customs, and other areas relating to the tournament.
Five match days have been fixed for the tournament following draws in early November which features two pools of 3 teams.
The Solomon Islands is the defending champions after snatching the title during the 2nd edition of the tournament in New Caledonia in 2023.
The Solomon Islands is pooled with Papua New Guinea alongside the Solympics development side in Pool A. Pool B features Fiji, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu.
MSG leaders in 2022 revived the tournament, formally known as the Melanesian Cup after it was inactive for more than 20 years.
The first edition was hosted in Vanuatu in 2022 during which PNG was the winner.
