Hope for the Future: Six Solomon Islands National Football Players Embark on NPL Journeys for 2025 Season

A new chapter in Solomon Islands football is unfolding as six national team players have secured moves to clubs in Australia’s National Premier Leagues (NPL) for the 2025/26 season. This marks an important step forward for the development of the sport in the Solomon Islands and highlights the growing influence of Pacific Island players in Australian football.

The announcement of the first trio that got the greenlight made home fans excited for Solomon islands football. Three Solomon Islands internationals, Raphael Le’ai,  Rovu Boyers and Alick Wae, have made high-profile moves. Le’ai, who previously played for Adelaide City FC, has signed with Wollongong Wolves FC, while Boyers has joined West Adelaide SC and national team defender Javin Alick Wae has also secured a move to Campbelltown City SC,  further solidifying the presence of Solomon Islands players in the NPL.

Then recently, the Solomon Islands Football  Federation announced another three players – Micah Lea’alafa, Junior David, and William Komasi. They have already received the green light to join teams in South Australia. Lea’alafa, who has spent the last two seasons with FK Beograd, will now play for Adelaide Vipers FC. Komasi will strengthen Adelaide Omonia Cobras, while David is set to join Croydon FC. All three moves were confirmed this week, with Komasi and David departing the Solomon Islands to begin their Australian journey.

Lea’alafa’s signing at Adelaide Vipers was welcomed by Head Coach Maged Ibrahim, who praised his attacking prowess and experience. Similarly, Adelaide Omonia Cobras’ Matt Prodanovski expressed his excitement about Komasi’s potential, especially given his national team performances. Croydon FC Head Coach George Tsonis highlighted David’s versatility, which will be an asset to his new team.

These transfers were made possible through a partnership with the Australian High Commission in the Solomon Islands, as part of a four-year investment aimed at developing Pacific football talent. The initiative is expected to inspire the next generation of players and strengthen ties between Australia and the Solomon Islands.
