NICE, France, Tuesday 10 June 2025 — The Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele met with His Excellency Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, on the sidelines of the United Nations Oceans Conference in Nice, France.
The meeting reaffirmed the warm and cordial diplomatic relations between the two countries, which have been in place since 30 October 1996. Both leaders discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including fisheries, agriculture, tourism. Two leaders agreed to task their officials to look at visa waiver arrangements and put in place trade arrangements.
Vietnam’s commitment to share its development experience progress in agricultural development and aquaculture was acknowledged Solomon Islands interest in advancing people centred sustainable growth.
The two Prime Ministers reaffirmed their mutual interest in multilateralism and agreed to work on all areas of mutual interest on the global agenda.
Trade between the two countries continues to progress, with Vietnam exporting mainly rice to the Solomon Islands, while the Solomon Islands’ exports to Vietnam primarily consist of rough wood. Two Prime Ministers agreed to look at appointing Honorary Consuls in each other’s capita, noting Solomon Islands has identified a possible candidate currently under consideration by Vietnam.
A high-level visit to Vietnam by the Solomon Islands Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade planned for July 2025 is expected to further deepen bilateral ties and explore new areas of collaboration.
The Government of the Solomon Islands remains committed to fostering a strong and mutually beneficial partnership with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
