In June, the SOLKAS project, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Management and the Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (RWASH) program, officially handed over upgraded water supply systems to the communities of Busurata and Radefasu.
As part of the project, two new rainwater harvesting systems were also installed in the Sulione (Kwaimanafu) area. The handover ceremony, held in Radefasu, brought together community members from all three locations, along with representatives from the Environmental Health Division (RWASH), SOLKAS staff, and other partners.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Jackson Filiomea, Program Manager at the Environmental Health Division, urged communities to take good care of the new facilities to ensure they benefit everyone for years to come.
Mr. John Wate, Provincial Manager for Save the Children, thanked RWASH and the communities for their commitment and support in completing the project. He also expressed appreciation to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) as the main donor, and acknowledged additional support from MFAT and DFAT in helping build climate resilience in rural communities and schools.
The new water systems are expected to significantly improve access to safe water, boost hygiene, and support long-term community health and resilience.
