Honiara, 1 September 2025 β The Solomon Islandsβ Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 1.8% in July 2025, reaching a level of 131.8, according to a report released on Wednesday, 27 August. Compared to the same month in 2024, this represents a 5.3% annual increase, reflecting ongoing inflationary pressures across the country.
The largest monthly increases were recorded in alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and narcotics, which surged by 9.6%, followed by food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose by 1.7%. Meanwhile, price drops were observed in key categories such as housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-1.1%), health (-0.1%), and recreation and culture (-1.1%).
The national inflation rate, based on a three-month moving average, stood at 4.4% in July. This included a 0.8% increase for imported items and a significantly higher 6.0% for domestic items. Underlying inflation ranged between 0.9% and 3.1%.

Inflation varied across provincial towns. Honiara recorded a 4.6% increase, largely driven by rising costs in alcohol and food. Auki experienced the highest increase at 5.9%, with food prices up by 4.8%. In contrast, Gizo saw prices fall by 0.4%, with declines in food, alcohol, and housing. Noro reported a modest increase of 1.7%, with notable price rises in clothing, health, and household goods.
The report highlights the uneven impact of inflation across different regions and categories, with some towns and sectors experiencing significant price increases, while others saw relief through falling costs.
