The Fataleka Constituency, under the leadership of the Member of Parliament and Minister of Finance and Treasury Honourable Rexon Ramofafia, is embarking on an ambitious target to build over 500 new homes for rural families in Fataleka by 2028. This follows the completion and recent handover of the first 121 homes on the 14 of February 2026.

This “500 Homes by 2028” vision embodies Honourable Ramofafiaโ€™s firm and dedicated commitment to improve living standards and addressing rural poverty in his constituency.
Recognizing that adequate shelter is a basic human right and a necessary factor in development, the program targets rural families who have long struggled to access adequate and liveable housing.

This initiative aligns with the Solomon Islands Governmentโ€™s national development strategy (SINDS)to alleviate poverty and improve living standards for the 80 per cent of the population living in rural areas.

โ€œWe are changing lives and livelihoods,โ€ Hon. Minister Ramofafia said at a recent handover ceremony. โ€œBy 2028 when Solomon Islands celebrates its 50th anniversary of independence, we must also see tangible evidence of progress and an uplift in our peopleโ€™s standard of living in the constituency.โ€

The project is implemented as a partnership program between the government, the Constituency office and families/communities.
The Constituency Office provides all hardware building materials, and hires experienced local builders. The families and resource owners provide local materials like gravel and timber, as well as general labour. By hiring skilled carpenters from the zones, the program also creates employment and supports rural livelihoods.

โ€œSince 2020, the constituency has invested nearly SBD$6 million into the initiative. 121 two-bedroom homes are now completed and occupied, whilst work is ongoing for another 520 structures, with a target to finish over 200 more by the end of this year,โ€ Constituency Development Officer Charles Laua stated.
For the first recipients, these new homes are more than just buildings; they are the fulfillment of lifelong dreams.

โ€œI was raised in a thatched sago-palm leaf house, always repairing leaks. Now, I finally own a permanent home. This is a dream come true for me and my family,โ€ Alick Suiti from Subobono village shared his joy.
Similarly, Daisy Lamasi of Fakwato village added, โ€œMy family struggled for a long time to build a permanent home. This initiative has truly transformed our lives and improved our living standards.โ€

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, John Misiteโ€™e on behalf of the government commended the constituencyโ€™s shared initiative as a perfect example of how government policy with supported resources, and community support can directly improve lives on the ground.ย

โ€œWe are witnessing your governmentโ€™s commitment for rural development come into reality through this housing program. The resources from CDF are well used, supporting the basic infrastructures and providing dignity to the families who are the beneficiaries of the housesโ€™โ€™.

PS Misiteโ€™e, further stated, “These 121 homes are not just structures; they are foundations for better lives, stronger families, and a more prosperous Fataleka.โ€
โ€œThe Fataleka housing program is bringing comfort, dignity, and new opportunities to rural families. By securing their basic need for shelter, these families can now focus on improving their livelihoods and contributing to a future free from rural poverty.โ€ PS Misiteโ€™e remarked

PS Misiteโ€™e, furthermore congratulated the people of Fataleka, especially the recipients of the first 121 completed homes for their fine achievement.

For the first 121 recipient families who have occupied their homes, the experience is real as they now enjoy a comfortable living with dignity. Overall wellbeing of these people are improved and opportunities for other socio-economic opportunities are created. Their efforts will now focus on other areas to improve their well-being and livelihood and contributing to eliminating rural poverty in Solomon Islands.

This Fataleka Constituency 500 Homes/2028 Vision truly lives up to the Ministry of Rural Developmentโ€™s vision to; Empowering all Solomon Islanders for self-sufficiency, improved livelihoods, and sustainable development.

A symbolic key handover to formalize the transfer of the first 121 homes by the government, represented by the Fataleka Member of Parliament Hon Ramofafia to the new homeowners, was held on the 14 of February 2026 at Subobono Village in Fataleka Constituency. Hundreds of constituents turned up to witness the historic milestone. The program concluded with feasting and community celebrations.

The CDF is a national program of the Solomon Islands Government (SIG), administered by the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD). It is implemented across all 50 constituencies to improve the social and economic livelihoods of Solomon Islanders. The ministryโ€™s vision is: โ€œEmpowering all Solomon Islanders for self-sufficiency, improved livelihoods, and sustainable development.โ€
