Tight Security as Parliament Prepares for No-Confidence Vote on PM Manele

May 6, 2026

The National Parliament will convene a special sitting tomorrow, Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to consider a motion of no confidence in the Prime Minister, Hon. Jeremiah Manele.
This special sitting arises from the Court of Appeal judgment in Governor General & Others v. Kologeto & Others (Civil Appeal Case No. 16 of 2026), which ordered the Prime Minister to facilitate the recall of Parliament specifically to consider the motion by May 7, 2026.

In compliance with the Court of Appealโ€™s orders, the Prime Minister formally advised the Speaker on May 4, 2026, that Parliament must sit on Thursday, May 7, 2026. The Speaker agreed and directed the Clerk to issue a written notice to all Members of Parliament on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, informing them of the special sitting.

As with any parliamentary meeting, the special sitting will be open to the public. However, due to past disorderly and violent incidents, strict control measures will be enforced at the precinct entrances and at the Parliament House itself. These measures will include inspections of persons, bags, and vehicles.

Admission to Parliament House, particularly the public gallery, will be subject to a strict dress code and may be withdrawn for non-compliance with the National Parliament Admission Rules. Public access will be managed by National Parliament security personnel in collaboration with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.
