Three candidates have officially entered the race to become the next Prime Minister of Solomon Islands following the close of nominations at midday today.
The three nominees are Peter Shanel Agovaka, Manasseh Maelanga and Matthew Cooper Wale.
According to the official notice, all nominations were submitted before the noon deadline. Agovaka’s nomination was received at 10:28am, Maelanga’s at 10:35am, while Wale’s nomination was lodged at 11:15am.

Parliament is set to elect the country’s next Prime Minister on Friday, 15 May 2026, following the successful motion of no confidence that removed former Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele last week.
Political camps are now expected to intensify lobbying efforts ahead of Friday’s crucial vote as the three candidates seek enough support from Members of Parliament to form the next government.
