PRIME Minister Hon. Matthew Wale has signed into operation the Fisheries (Prohibition of Export of Dolphins) Regulations 2026, effective Saturday 16th May 2026.
The effect of this new regulation is clear that the export of dolphins is now banned.
This decisive move revokes the previous regulation signed by former Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources Hon. Bradley Tovosia on Wednesday 14th May.

The Prime Ministerβs swift intervention was necessary to protect the countryβs tuna industry, a cornerstone of the national economy from reputational risk and potential international backlash.
This action sends a strong and unambiguous message: Solomon Islands will not compromise its fisheries standards or risk its economic lifeline for short-term decisions.
The Government remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of the fisheries sector while ensuring that national interests, jobs, and international partnerships are protected.
