Solomon Islands was invited to participate in the 2025 Roundtable Discussion on Mobilising Partnerships to Shape Disaster and Climate Resilience Across the Asia-Pacific Region, hosted by the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Asia-Pacific coalition, comprising over 25 offices, and the Emirates Natureโ€“WWF.

The event took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Representing the Solomon Islands and the Pacific region was WWF Coordinator, Mr. Slade Ririmae,ย  .

The event brought together leaders from WWF, philanthropic organizations, and representatives from more than 25 countries across the Asia-Pacific region, alongside UAE leadership.

Discussions focused on the growing challenges posed by climate change, including the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters, and the vital role philanthropists can play in supporting resilience and adaptation efforts.

Mr. Ririmae emphasized the serious threats climate change poses to the Solomon Islandsโ€™ economy, livelihoods, cultural heritage, and sustainable development.

He also showcased WWFโ€™s ongoing initiatives in the country aimed at adaptation and mitigation.

Ambassador Walegerea underscored the importance of sharing the experiences of Pacific communities.

โ€œAs Pacific peoples, we are vulnerable to climate changeโ€”the world needs to hear our stories,โ€ he stated.

He also urged philanthropic organizations to support communities on the frontlines of climate change impacts.
