This morning, Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele, MP, attended a solemn Commemoration and Remembrance Ceremony at the Skyline World War II Memorial, marking the anniversary of the historic Battle of Guadalcanal.

Led by the United States Embassy, the ceremony honoured the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who served under the Allied Forces during one of the most pivotal battles of World War II. Speeches paid tribute to their bravery and lasting legacy.

Following the Skyline event, Prime Minister Manele joined a special remembrance service for the Scouts and Coastal Watchers at Commonwealth Street. These local heroes played a critical role during the Guadalcanal Campaign, using their deep knowledge of the land to support Allied efforts in resisting Japanese advancement.

The ceremonies served as a powerful reminder of the enduring sacrifices made for freedom and peace in Solomon Islands and across the Pacific.
